A heroic construction worker recounted a daring rescue he made this morning in Ponsonby, Auckland, pulling a person from a burning house on Tawariki St. Firefighters rushed to the scene, using an aerial crane to battle the flames.

Jeremy Lodder, working nearby, noticed the fire and sprang into action. Stopping his work, he swiftly evacuated a man from the burning building, displaying remarkable bravery.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s Senior Station Officer Michael Manning praised the quick response of the crews, who managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighboring property. Despite extensive damage to the initial house, the neighbor’s home was spared, showing the effectiveness of the firefighters’ efforts.

The morning was a busy one for Auckland fire crews, with multiple incidents requiring their attention. After extinguishing a fire on Hobson St in the CBD, they swiftly responded to the Ponsonby blaze.

Utilizing a high-reach ladder truck from Wellington, the crews worked tirelessly to extinguish any remaining pockets of fire. The incident follows a tragic house fire in Auckland the day before, underscoring the importance of fire safety measures.

The police were called to assist in locating and ensuring the safety of the individual rescued from the burning house. With over six fire trucks and twenty crew members on site, the situation was under control, thanks to the swift actions of all involved.
