Federal agents conducted a massive takedown of the notorious 18th Street Gang, a key player in the drugs epidemic. The FBI led a raid on an apartment block in east Los Angeles early Thursday following a lengthy investigation into the criminal organization.
The 18th Street Gang, known for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl, has been a longstanding issue in the city, particularly in MacArthur Park and Skid Row.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jena McCabe revealed that the recent raids aimed to dismantle the gang’s leadership structure to disrupt their illicit activities, including drug dealing, extortion, murder, racketeering, and gambling. Over the course of three days, more than 11 individuals were arrested, and multiple searches and raids were conducted on properties and vehicles.
Charges against members of the gang ranged from murder to illegal gambling. The operation witnessed by the Post was part of a series of warrants served on the gang throughout the week.
The FBI agents, equipped with tactical gear, carried out the operation with precision, seizing evidence and apprehending suspects. The arrested individuals were brought to a command post for processing.
The FBI and federal prosecutors set up facilities for photographing and cataloging the evidence and suspects. Agents expressed satisfaction with the arrests and promised more details at a press conference.
McCabe emphasized that by targeting the gang’s leadership, law enforcement hoped to significantly reduce their impact on the city. She described the 18th Street Gang as one of the most violent groups in Los Angeles and stressed the importance of disrupting their operations.
