After the controversial firing of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem by Donald Trump, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel seized the opportunity to poke fun at the embattled former official. Noem’s dismissal came after a series of scandals, including her involvement in a questionable $220 million border security advertising campaign, the use of border funds to purchase a multi-million-dollar jet fleet, her close relationship with aide Corey Lewandowski, and her false characterization of Alex Pretti, a Minnesota man killed by ICE agents, as a “domestic terrorist.”

In his opening monologue, Kimmel likened the situation to a scripted TV show, comparing it to a “Game of Thrones” moment. He humorously described Noem’s departure as a “red wedding” on the TV show of Trump’s presidency, marking the first cabinet firing of his second term.

Kimmel highlighted Noem’s departure following “two disastrous hearings in the House and Senate,” revealing that Trump had appointed her as the Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas, a newly created security initiative in the Western Hemisphere. With a touch of sarcasm, Kimmel wished Noem luck in her fictional new role, questioning the legitimacy of the position.

The late-night host also mocked Trump’s denial of any knowledge about Noem’s controversial ad campaign, despite widespread public awareness. Kimmel playfully addressed Trump directly, teasing him about his television-watching habits. He also ridiculed Noem’s claim that the ad campaign was the most successful in U.S. history, humorously comparing it to iconic advertising campaigns like “Where’s the Beef?” and “Whazzzzup!”

Kimmel then shifted focus to Noem’s replacement, Oklahoma senator Markwayne Mullin, a former MMA fighter and plumber. He quipped about Trump’s apparent admiration for Mullin, drawing parallels to reality TV personalities like Honey Boo Boo.

Amidst the humor, Kimmel touched on serious issues, including public opinion on the war with Iran and concerns about national security under Trump’s leadership. He also referenced the release of previously missing government documents, hinting at disturbing allegations against a prominent figure without explicitly naming Trump. Kimmel speculated on the potential media frenzy if similar accusations were made against a different political figure.
