An Ohio man, Kyle Long, was charged with the murder of his wife, Rachel Long, after claiming she stabbed herself 17 times to death following her request for a separation. The incident took place in their London, Ohio home in October 2025.
According to Kyle Long, Rachel returned home from work and went into the master bathroom while he was working at his desk. He alleged that he witnessed her stabbing herself repeatedly in the neck and face. However, Rachel was found on the bathroom floor in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to her neck, face, arms, and hands.
Kyle Long was arrested after a four-month investigation, during which evidence contradicted his initial statements. Text messages between Rachel and a friend moments before her death showed no signs of suicidal thoughts, as they discussed outfits for a concert. A four-minute gap between the last text and a 911 call from Kyle’s phone helped establish the sequence of events.
Further investigation revealed inconsistencies in Kyle Long’s account, with evidence suggesting a struggle between two individuals. A 360-degree scan of the house indicated that he could not have witnessed his wife stabbing herself from where he claimed to be sitting. The autopsy on Rachel Long’s body revealed defensive wounds and cuts inconsistent with self-inflicted injuries.
Rachel Long, a pet groomer known for her love of animals and involvement in dog rescues, was remembered for her compassionate nature. Her death was ruled a homicide by the coroner’s office. Kyle Long is currently held on a $1.5 million bond, with no plea entered into the case as of Saturday.
The tragic case sheds light on the complexities of domestic violence and the importance of thorough investigation in uncovering the truth behind such incidents. It serves as a reminder to seek help and support in situations of abuse or conflict within relationships.
