Elijah Malone Making the Most of Final Season with Buffaloes

About a year ago, Elijah Malone was granted an unexpected extra year of eligibility, prompting Tad Boyle to express his willingness to bring back the 6-foot-10 center for another season. While this extra season has not gone as planned, Malone is determined to make an impact in his final run through March of his collegiate basketball career.

As a sixth-year player in his second season at CU, Malone will be honored as the lone senior when the Buffaloes face off against No. 2 Arizona in the regular season finale. Despite facing injuries and challenges, Malone provided a spark to the team during a recent win at Utah and is expected to do so again in the upcoming game against the Wildcats.

Although Malone hasn’t started since January, Boyle has announced plans to start him against Arizona, citing his effectiveness in the post and his hard work throughout the season despite battling a shoulder issue.

Malone, a former NAIA All-American at Grace College, transferred to Colorado in 2024 and has had his share of ups and downs at the Division I level. He showed promise in his first season with strong performances towards the end, leading to high expectations for his second year. While a shoulder injury hindered his effectiveness this season, Malone has continued to give his all on the court.

With 41 starts and an average of 6.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, Malone has been a valuable asset to the Buffs. Despite the challenges he has faced, his work ethic and character have not gone unnoticed by Boyle and his teammates.

As Malone looks to finish his collegiate career on a high note, the Buffaloes are grateful for his contributions and dedication to the team.
