Alleged ISIS-Loving Radical Islamists Charged with Tossing IEDs Near Gracie Mansion

Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently held a press conference outside Grace Mansion, where he refused to condemn the pair of alleged ISIS-loving radical Islamists charged with tossing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) near Gracie Mansion during an anti-Muslim protest on Saturday. The suspects, Ibraham Kayumi, 19, and Emir Balat, 18, both from Pennsylvania, were arrested following the incident.

During the press conference, Mayor Mamdani, the first Muslim mayor of the city, expressed concern over the incident. He stated, “They are suspected of coming here to commit an act of terrorism. There’s video evidence of these individuals throwing two devices towards the protest, which were determined by the police department to be improvised explosive devices designed to cause harm.”

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch also commented on the incident, mentioning that the act was being investigated as “ISIS-inspired terrorism.” The authorities are taking the matter seriously and ensuring that anyone who brings violence to the streets of New York City will be held accountable according to the law.

Response to Anti-Muslim Protesters

Mayor Mamdani condemned the anti-Muslim protesters involved in the demonstration but did not directly address the fact that the counter-protesters, Kayumi and Balat, were allegedly self-radicalized by ISIS videos. The incident highlights the complex nature of extremism and the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing such threats.

The case of Kayumi and Balat serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism. As investigations continue, it is crucial to address the root causes of radicalization and work towards building a more inclusive and peaceful society.
