A suburban man is facing a slew of felony charges for allegedly making threats against a Cook County judge both electronically and in open court. The alleged threats began almost a year ago, on December 20, 2023, when Daniel Land reportedly threatened to harm Judge Lori Rosen and warned her that she would end up in jail during a Zoom court hearing.

Judge Rosen presides over domestic matters from a courtroom located at the Daley Center. According to criminal complaints, Land sent numerous threatening emails to Rosen’s courtroom on January 16, accusing her of being involved in criminal offenses. During another Zoom hearing that month, he once again threatened to harm the judge and accused her of aiding and abetting a child abduction and conspiring to commit murder.

More recently, in August, Land allegedly left two threatening voicemails at the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. Among the numerous threats he made was one where he claimed to have the authority to harm the recipient.

As a result of these actions, Land is now facing four counts of threatening a public official, four counts of intimidation by threat of physical harm, two counts of harassment threatening to kill, and one count of cyberstalking by electronic threat. He is currently being held at the Cook County jail, with a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

The allegations against Land highlight the seriousness of threatening behavior towards public officials and the legal consequences that can follow. It is important for individuals to understand the implications of making threats and to seek appropriate channels for addressing any grievances they may have.
