Access Hollywood Staff Shocked by Show’s Abrupt Cancellation
Staff members at “Access Hollywood” were blindsided by the news of the show’s cancellation during a tearful morning call, with even top producers caught off guard, according to sources familiar with the situation. The decision, made by NBCUniversal after nearly 30 years on air, left employees uncertain about their future, including details of severance packages.
Despite the devastating news, the staff had to continue working through the weekend, including the Sunday night Academy Awards, without knowing when their last day would be.
“Access Hollywood” and its companion show “Access Live” will wrap up production as NBCUniversal moves away from first-run syndicated TV programs. The decision came as a surprise to many, with some speculating it was influenced by Kelly Clarkson’s recent announcement to step away from her talk show.
Despite the confusion and disappointment among the staff, the show will continue filming through the summer before going off the air for good. Hosted by Mario Lopez, Kit Hoover, Scott Evans, and Zuri Hall, “Access Hollywood” has been a staple in the entertainment industry since its debut in 1996.
Over the years, the show has seen various hosts and correspondents, including Nancy O’Dell, Maria Menounos, Jeff Probst, Pat O’Brien, and Billy Bush.
