Medical examiner: Man found stuffed in suitcase in Little Village was shot to death

A tragic discovery was made in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood last autumn when a man was found stuffed inside a suitcase. The victim, identified as Omar Cobbs, 48, was found in a green suitcase in the 3300 block of South Kedzie Avenue. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that Cobbs was shot to death, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head causing his demise.

At the time of the discovery, Cobbs’ body was badly decomposed, indicating that he had been in the suitcase for some time before being found. The Chicago Police Department initially classified the case as a “death investigation” while the cause and manner of death were being determined. Despite the ruling of homicide by the medical examiner’s office, no arrests have been made in connection with Cobbs’ death.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing issue of violence in Chicago and the impact it has on communities like Little Village. The lack of closure for Cobbs’ loved ones and the absence of justice for his untimely death serve as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to address crime and violence in the city.

As we continue to seek answers and justice for victims like Omar Cobbs, it is important to support independent journalism that brings attention to these important issues. CWBChicago is dedicated to providing original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Your support allows us to continue our mission of delivering accurate and thorough reporting on incidents like this one.
