Shocking video footage captured the moment a runaway taxi crashed into two pedestrians outside a Manhattan bodega, propelling one into the basement and throwing the other onto the sidewalk.
Two women were walking along Rivington Street near Essex Street when they were struck by the out-of-control cab outside a Deli Grocery, as seen in a security video obtained by WABC.
Both women were thrown onto the cab’s hood before it collided with the bodega, scattering glass, flowers, and debris across the Lower East Side street.
One woman was propelled down the basement stairs, while the other was left on the pavement, according to witnesses.
Neighboring businesses were shocked by the crash, with some initially thinking they had been hit. Three people were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover, as reported by the FDNY.
Passenger Brenna, who was in the cab during the incident, described the sudden loss of control that led to the crash.
âEverything was normal, and then all of a sudden, we hit the flower shop,â she said. âWe had no idea what happened and then we came out and saw someone was on the ground and we saw someone was under the car.â
