Michael Strahan has found himself in the middle of a controversy surrounding his stance during the national anthem on Sunday. The former Giants player and TV personality released a video statement addressing the outrage, explaining that his hand placement was simply a result of being caught up in the moment.

During a Veteran’s Day-themed “Fox NFL Sunday” broadcast from Naval Base San Diego, Strahan’s pose during the “Star-Spangled Banner” drew criticism. In his statement, he denied any political statement and expressed his deep respect for the military. Strahan admitted that he was so amazed by the sailors present at the event that he didn’t realize his co-hosts had their hands on their chests, causing him to panic.

Rather than change his pose mid-song and risk looking like a “fool,” Strahan chose to respectfully keep his hands in front of him. He emphasized that his gesture was not meant to disrespect the armed forces, as he grew up on a military base and has family members who have served the country.

In a tense encounter with a reporter outside his NYC home, Strahan expressed regret over his reaction but stated that he will always protect his family and his home. Despite the controversy, Strahan has received public support from his Fox co-host Jay Glazer and U.S. veteran-turned-football player Nate Boyer.

The incident has sparked discussions about patriotism and respect during the national anthem, with many weighing in on Strahan’s actions and intentions. As the debate continues, Strahan remains firm in his explanation of the situation and his dedication to honoring the military.
