Javier Bardem Calls for Peace and Free Palestine at Oscars

While presenting the Oscar for best international film, Javier Bardem made a powerful statement by advocating for peace and freedom for Palestine. His words, “No to war and free Palestine,” resonated with the audience and received a significant round of applause at the prestigious event.

This moment comes amidst a national debate over American military actions in Iran and United States intervention in the Israel-Palestine conflict. Bardem’s bold stance on the issue highlights the importance of addressing global conflicts and promoting peace.

Speaking to Variety on the red carpet of the Emmy awards, Bardem expressed his passion for advocating for the rights of Palestinians.

“Here I am today, denouncing the genocide in Gaza,” he stated. “The International Association of Genocide Scholars has recognized the atrocities in Gaza as genocide. We call for a commercial and diplomatic blockade, as well as sanctions on Israel to end the genocide. Free Palestine.”

Another prominent issue that has garnered attention during the awards season is the condemnation of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Celebrities like Billie Eilish, Mark Ruffalo, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Samuel L. Jackson have been seen wearing “ICE Out” pins to show solidarity with the movement.

The “Be Good-ICE Out” campaign aims to honor individuals affected by ICE policies and calls for reform in immigration enforcement. Supported by organizations like the ACLU and National Domestic Workers Alliance, the movement seeks to bring awareness to the impact of ICE on communities.

Earlier this year, stars and filmmakers participated in anti-ICE protests at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde, Will Poulter, Zoey Deutch, and Molly Ringwald were among those who voiced their criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
