Samsung’s One UI 9 based on Android 17 has been making waves in the tech world, with the first build spotted on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Tech Advisor reports that the new software brings some exciting changes, including larger volume and brightness controls within quick settings and a dedicated parental controls section in the settings menu.

The early build of One UI 9, which is currently available for the S26 Ultra, gives us a glimpse into Samsung’s plans for its Android 17 skin. While this version is still in development and subject to change, it hints at potential features like app windows, lock screen widgets, and improved app adaptability for different screen sizes. Additionally, One UI 9 is expected to introduce iOS-style split panels for notifications and quick settings.

Despite the recent launch of the Galaxy S26 range with One UI 8.5, Samsung is actively working on One UI 9 in parallel. The company is likely to release Android 17 for Galaxy phones in the coming months, but it will probably be based on One UI 8.5 initially. The official launch of One UI 9 could coincide with the unveiling of Samsung’s next generation of foldable devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, expected in July.

As for the timeline of One UI 9, Samsung may roll out a beta program for Galaxy S26 phones around the same time as the launch of Android 17. This will give users the opportunity to test out the new features and provide feedback before the official release. With ongoing development and active progress, it’s exciting to see how One UI 9 will shape up in the weeks and months ahead.

From revamped controls to new features inspired by Android 17, the latest software update is set to offer a fresh and innovative interface for Samsung users. Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of One UI 9 as Samsung continues to refine and improve its software offerings.
