Lisa Rinna recently made headlines with her striking red carpet appearance, leaving fans amazed and critics unsettled, RadarOnline.com reports.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star drew significant attention at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 2026 Oscars viewing party on March 15 by wearing a unique gown crafted from approximately 11 pounds of dark brown human hair.
This distinctive couture creation featured thick strands that wrapped around Rinna’s body, forming a strapless bodice before cascading into a full-length skirt composed entirely of flowing locks.
Rinna expressed her delight upon seeing the completed dress, sharing her enthusiasm in a video on her Instagram Story.
“Oh my god, are you kidding me? Look at how gorgeous,” she remarked while admiring the design, as reported by E! News. “That’s gonna be the best hair day of my life. I’ve never had so much hair. It’s amazing. My iconic hair, from my head to my toes.”
Rinna, 62, attended the event with her husband, actor Harry Hamlin, complementing the striking gown with a sparkling diamond necklace and her trademark voluminous pixie haircut.
The gown was a collaboration between designer Christian Cowan and haircare brand TRESemmé.
Cowan explained that the goal was to elevate hair beyond a mere accessory and make it the focal point of the entire ensemble.
“With the TRESemmé A-List Hair Couture Dress, I wanted to put hair front and center,” the designer stated in a press release. “The hair is not the finishing touch of this look — it is the look.”
This ambitious undertaking reportedly involved a team of 16 people and 152 hours of work to bring to life.
Cowan emphasized the often-overlooked artistry involved in preparing celebrities for major red carpet events.
“This project was about celebrating that relationship and showing how hair artistry and fashion design can come together in a really unexpected way,” he explained.
He also believed Rinna was the ideal person to showcase the unconventional gown.
“I wanted to celebrate the beauty of Lisa, she’s a tour de force,” he told People before the event. “And she’s so known for her iconic hair, so it felt fun to play with that.”
However, while Rinna was thrilled, many online reactions were less favorable, with some viewers deeming the concept bizarre and excessive.
“Celebrities and doing too much, was all that really necessary?” one person commented on social media.
Another critic suggested the hair could have served a better purpose, saying: “Better if donated for cancer patients.”
Others questioned the amount of hair used in the design.
“How many wigs could’ve been made with this hair?” one user inquired.
Some reactions were even more severe.
“Eleven pounds of human hair on a dress?! Just when I thought Lisa Rinna couldn’t get any creepier, she goes and does this,” one commenter wrote. “The moment I realized it, I was completely creeped out. What on earth is happening? Then again it’s Lisa Rinna and she’s crazy so I guess not surprised.”
Other remarks were more direct.
“Gross,” one person stated.
Another described the backlash succinctly: “Totally insane.”
