Otago game bird hunters are being notified that this year’s “mark-up day” will occur earlier than usual.
Bruce Quirey, the communications officer for Otago Fish & Game, has indicated that due to Easter arriving earlier this year, mark-up day is scheduled for Sunday, March 29.
This day provides an annual chance for licence holders to claim their preferred mai mai sites in preparation for the upcoming game bird season.
Quirey emphasized the importance of hunters being aware of the date change and taking necessary actions.
“With Easter arriving sooner, the date has been moved forward, so we’re encouraging everyone to check their schedules to ensure they don’t miss out,” he stated.
Hunters who held a mai mai site last season can reclaim it anytime before 10am on March 29 by purchasing their 2026 licence and attaching the claim tag. After 10am on mark-up day, any unclaimed mai mai sites become available to other licence holders. — Allied Media
