Police have recovered a body this morning during their search for a man who fell overboard in Lake Manapouri.
Although formal identification has not yet been completed, authorities believe the body is likely that of the man who disappeared on Saturday, approximately 1km from the shore of Lake Manapouri.
The individual is thought to be a 43-year-old from Gore.
Over recent days, extensive search efforts were carried out by Police Search and Rescue, the Police Dive Squad, and the Royal New Zealand Navy, covering the lake and its surrounding areas.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the man’s family during this challenging time,” said Sergeant Alun Griffiths.
He added, “I would also like to express gratitude to everyone involved in the search efforts. We are particularly thankful for the New Zealand Defence Force’s specialist expertise, which was crucial in bringing this extensive search to a close.”
