Overnight, two men were stabbed while traveling on a CTA train on the South Side, marking the latest in a series of violent incidents on the city’s train system.
According to a police statement, officers responded to the 47th Street Red Line station at approximately 1:26 a.m. A male suspect confronted two male passengers in a train car, leading to a verbal dispute. During the confrontation, the suspect brandished a sharp object and stabbed both men in the neck, police reported.
The victims were transported by EMS to the University of Chicago Hospital and are in fair condition. Their ages have not been disclosed. The Chicago Police Department has not provided a description of the suspect or his whereabouts.
In the past two weeks, at least four other individuals have been stabbed on the CTA train system:
- Early Saturday morning, a 30-year-old man was stabbed at the Western Blue Line station in Bucktown. After an argument on the platform escalated, the suspect attacked the victim with a sharp object, injuring his left hand before fleeing on foot. The victim is in good condition at Stroger Hospital.
- On March 14, two women, aged 43 and 23, were stabbed while on a Brown Line train in the Loop. A fight with another woman on the Clark-Lake platform escalated onto a train, where the assailant reportedly attacked again, injuring the older woman’s arm and the younger woman’s hand.
- On March 12, a 37-year-old man was stabbed on the northbound platform of the Grand Red Line station in River North. The victim was attacked in the left tricep without warning shortly before midnight.
