The series aims to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s seven novels, delving deeper into the source material than the two-hour films could. Dominic McLaughlin stars as Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. This trio was announced in May 2025, followed by the start of production two months later. The supporting cast is impressive.
John Lithgow steps into the role of Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer portrays Minerva McGonagall, Nick Frost takes on the beloved character of Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu is cast as Severus Snape. Essiedu’s casting sparked discussion upon announcement, and he has since spoken about receiving racist threats urging him to leave the role. Despite this, he remains committed. Further cast members include Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Lambert Wilson as Nicolas Flamel.
