A couple from Arlington Heights has been accused of repeatedly vandalizing a Republican political office in the northwest suburbs. Their actions reportedly included graffiti featuring swastikas, profanity, and derogatory comments about the late conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Brock McNerney, 72, and Moisette McNerney, 69, residing on the 1200 block of East Clarendon Avenue, were apprehended on Monday, as announced by the local police department. They face two misdemeanor charges each and have been released pending their first court appearance.
Authorities identified the couple as the perpetrators behind the vandalism of the Republicans of Wheeling Township office located at 909 East Rand Road. The incident took place late on January 25, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department. Surveillance footage captured two individuals using markers to deface the office windows with obscenities and symbols at around 10:51 p.m.
Arlington Heights Police Chief Nicholas Pecora stated that the responding officer noted the presence of profanity in black ink, several Nazi symbols, as well as what appeared to be feces and an unidentified liquid on the path leading to the office entrance.
John Saletta, deputy Republican committeeman for Wheeling Township, informed CWB Chicago in January that this incident marked the second time the office had been targeted. The first instance occurred in December, when someone wrote statements mocking Kirk, who was shot dead in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University in September.
The messages included phrases like âCHARLIE SQUIRT FRIENDLY FIRE,â âMY NECK HURTS,â and a longer message referring to Kirkâs âpassion for hate.â
Saletta mentioned that the organization initially maintained a âlow-keyâ approach after the first incident but decided to install security cameras afterward.
The Arlington Heights Police Department expressed gratitude to the public for their support and cooperation in providing information during the investigation.
