This morning, a crash on State Highway 1 in Canterbury has resulted in two individuals being trapped. The incident occurred on Main South Rd near Burnham and was reported to emergency services shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The road has been blocked due to the two-vehicle collision, and the police serious crash unit has been alerted to the situation. Traffic control measures are being implemented from Selwyn Lake Rd to Telegraph Rd.
In a statement, police advised motorists to steer clear of the area while emergency services manage the scene.
The Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency confirmed that SH1 is closed at the Telegraph Rd intersection.
Fire and Emergency NZ reported that three crews responded to the crash, where they found two people trapped in separate vehicles upon arrival.
