A Lakeview building manager’s prompt 911 call led to the arrest of a suspected serial burglar, Devin Ford, 26, from Uptown, who is now facing charges related to four burglaries on the North Side since January.

According to a Chicago Police Department report, the building manager contacted authorities around 1 p.m. on March 19 after witnessing Ford steal packages from two buildings he oversees. These buildings are located in the 500 block of West Addison Street and the 3500 block of North Pine Grove Avenue.

Officers quickly responded and found Ford walking along Pine Grove Avenue with a suitcase. Upon stopping him, Ford confessed to taking packages from at least one of the buildings. A search revealed he was carrying two screwdrivers and a pry bar.

The police obtained video footage allegedly showing Ford using a pry tool to force open locked doors at both buildings.

Detectives subsequently connected Ford to a burglary on January 21 at a residential building in the 800 block of West Diversey Parkway, where a $2,300 e-bike was stolen. He also faces charges for a burglary on February 20 at a residential building in the 500 block of West Fullerton Parkway.

Prosecutors did not seek to detain Ford, resulting in Judge John Hock releasing him to await trial.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
