House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has announced that his party is preparing to take action to remove Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth from his position.
Jeffries stated, “We’ve successfully removed several of his Cabinet secretaries. I believe Pete Hegseth is next, and we’re determined to continue pressing to oust him.”
In a decisive move, House Democrats have initiated the process by filing articles of impeachment against Hegseth.
The impeachment articles charge Hegseth with high crimes and misdemeanors, including:
-
Breaches of the law of armed conflict and civilian targeting, such as an unlawful strike aimed at killing survivors of a prior attack on a vessel in the Caribbean Sea, and operations causing significant civilian casualties in Iran that violate the Geneva Conventions;
-
Misuse of power and the politicization of the Armed Forces, including sanctioning targeted investigations against elected officials like Captain Mark Kelly for exercising their First Amendment rights;
Each allegation is sufficient for impeachment on its own, yet collectively, they form a substantial pattern of alleged misconduct.
