Boston Blue is set to stir strong emotions among Blue Bloods usweekly fans following the breakup of a cherished couple.
In the CBS series’ episode on Friday, April 17, Danny Reagan’s (played by Donnie Wahlberg) girlfriend, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), reappears to assist in a case. However, their chemistry seems off, and Maria later discloses that she is grappling with her mother’s worsening mental health due to Parkinson’s. This revelation leads her to unexpectedly pause her relationship with Danny, catching him and the audience by surprise.
“She’s in a crisis and unsure about her next steps,” Wahlberg, 56, shared exclusively with Us Weekly at CBS Fest on Wednesday, April 15. “Danny is quite stubborn; he’s not giving up without a fight.”
Having portrayed Danny since 2010, Wahlberg encouraged fans to remain hopeful, saying, “They should keep faith that [their romance] will rekindle.” His onscreen partner, Sonequa Martin-Green, also commented on this plot twist.
“I would love [to see them back together],” she expressed. “I adore Marissa, and I think they make a wonderful couple.”
Wahlberg mentioned there are plans to “extend” Danny and Maria’s journey.

“I grew up watching General Hospital and All My Children,” Wahlberg recalled. “I remember when Laura disappeared, and Luke was heartbroken. Everyone thought Laura had left the show, but she came back, and they embraced. She left again, but that’s the nature of TV!”
In another part of the episode, Sarah, played by Maggie Lawson, found her personal life thriving as Seth (Mike Vogel) proposed just before Danny and Maria’s separation.
“What I love most about our show is its reflection of life,” Lawson, 45, remarked. “It’s human and real. Often, beautiful celebrations remind us of other pains people endure and can trigger challenging moments.”
She added, “While showcasing this was heartbreaking, I’m sorry we had to bring up such a tough conversation.”
Lawson expressed to Us her ongoing optimism for love between Danny and Maria. Her co-star Gloria Reuben, however, was more skeptical, saying, “I hope for a couple of days, then I lose faith.”
Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes are available for streaming the following day on Paramount+.
