The Season 2 finale of “The Pitt” drew the largest audience in the series’ history.
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, the 15th and final episode of the show’s second season attracted 9.7 million viewers during its opening weekend. Overall, Season 2 has been averaging 15.4 million viewers per episode, marking a 50% increase over the average viewership of Season 1.
This achievement places “The Pitt” among only six series on HBO Max that have surpassed an average of 15 million viewers, joining the ranks of “House of the Dragon,” “The White Lotus,” “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “The Last of Us,” and “It: Welcome to Derry.”
In a review of the Season 2 finale, Variety critic Alison Herman noted that, with the groundwork already laid in its first season, “The Pitt” focused its second season on exploring the enduring emotional impacts of emergency medicine careers on the characters viewers have grown attached to. The unique nature of these personal conflicts meant the season did not provide the cathartic experience of a unified team confronting extreme situations with courage. This, however, underscores the show’s intention. While “The Pitt” aims to portray the heroism and empathy of healthcare workers, it also highlights the long-term consequences of these traits, which is where compelling television can truly thrive.
“The Pitt” is a procedural drama set in the emergency room of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, led by Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. The cast also features Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi. As reported exclusively by Variety, Supriya Ganesh has departed the series after Season 2, while Ayesha Harris has been promoted to a series regular role for Season 3.
R. Scott Gemmill created the series and serves as an executive producer alongside Wyle, John Wells, Erin Jontow of John Wells Productions, Simran Baidwan, and Michael Hissrich.
