Kennedy talking a new, more moderate version of MAHA agenda

WASHINGTON — Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. previously stated that no vaccines are both safe and effective. However, his stance appears to have shifted recently.

During two Senate hearings, Kennedy highlighted his efforts as health secretary, where he supported the creation of new vaccines, approved new vaccinations for patients, and promoted flu vaccines as preventive care. He notably advocated for “every child to get the MMR,” a vaccine he had previously criticized for safety concerns. Last week, he acknowledged that the vaccine could have saved a child who died of measles.

Kennedy’s initiatives are creating significant ripples in the American health care landscape. His department is actively addressing alleged fraud and attempting to change the public’s consumption of ultra-processed foods. This is occurring alongside substantial cuts to health agencies and a reevaluation of vaccine policies. His change in approach also touches on key issues central to MAHA, such as food chemicals and the government’s ties with industry.

STAT Plus: White House says it’s ‘done’ with vaccines. MAHA begs to differ

This shift occurs as some leaders of the insurgent movement express skepticism towards the administration they originally supported. This has led the Trump administration to carefully balance maintaining the support of the MAHA base while potentially abandoning some MAHA priorities that are deemed impractical or politically risky.
