The new facilities were showcased during an open day last weekend, marking this significant achievement for the school.
According to Principal Stephen Walters, the school, which serves students from year 1 to 13, received approval from the Ministry of Education last year to expand its enrollment by 100 students over the next three years, increasing from 470 to 570.
Each of the seven new classrooms can accommodate up to 28 students within their 9-square-meter spaces.
The new building has been dedicated to Stan Stewart, a former pastor and a dedicated supporter of the school since its inception in 1979.
Walters stated that the gathering was not only to inaugurate a building but also to pay tribute to a legacy of faith, service, and unwavering dedication.
“Fourteen years ago, Stan Stewart took on the role of senior pastor at Gateway Life Church. For nearly 50 years, Gateway Life Church has maintained a vision to support a Christian school that is not limited to its own congregation but is open to Christian families throughout North Canterbury.
“Starting with just 16 students in 1979, that vision has flourished.
Currently, we have approximately 500 students, and with this new block’s opening, we are preparing to grow to 570 students by 2028.”
Walters mentioned that he has had the privilege of working alongside Stan Stewart for 11 years, witnessing his relentless commitment firsthand.
“Under Stan’s leadership and influence, we have seen the development of the gym, four separate classroom spaces, the technology block, and now this seven-classroom block, which we will call the Stewart Block in honor of Stan and Carole.
“Stan has always been a constant presence at Rangiora New Life School.
“He has served as pastor, Proprietor, board chair, chaplain, and, as many will know, even as the mower of lawns.”
More than 100 parents, supporters, and both past and present pupils attended the open day, which included bouncy castles, food, and entertainment for families.
A new staffroom and administration block are also under construction.
These are expected to open later in term two.
