The strength of our nation is rooted in the talent and determination of skilled workers who build, create, and innovate daily. This National Apprenticeship Week, the Administration is renewing its commitment to fostering apprenticeship opportunities that empower young Americans in skilled trades, tapping into the full potential of the workforce and contributing to lasting prosperity.
Apprentices are the future of our resilient workforce, and the Administration is dedicated to bolstering the economy and implementing policies that prioritize them. To protect American manufacturing from unfair foreign competition and repatriate jobs, robust tariffs are being enforced. These measures aim to level the playing field for American workers, secure trade deals bringing billions into the country, reduce taxes to benefit workers and businesses, and cut costs and regulations to accelerate industrial growth.
Last year, an Executive Order was signed to modernize workforce programs, including expanding apprenticeships into new sectors and planning to exceed one million new active Registered Apprenticeships. Efforts are also being made to ensure apprenticeship opportunities keep pace with technological advancements. The Department of Labor has been instructed to increase participation in artificial intelligence and nuclear energy Registered Apprenticeship programs, maintaining the nation’s position at the forefront of innovation.
By enhancing apprenticeship opportunities, American workers are being equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in sectors crucial to economic success, such as construction, manufacturing, energy, and emerging technology fields. Access to stable, high-paying jobs is being increased, wages are being boosted, and alternative career paths beyond traditional college degrees are being provided. Over the past year, 300,000 Americans have embarked on apprenticeships, strengthening a workforce prepared to meet the expected surge in industry and innovation.
During this National Apprenticeship Week, the value of apprenticeships and the dedication of hardworking Americans, who are shaping the future of the country with their efforts, are celebrated. The Administration remains resolute in its mission to build a future characterized by opportunity, innovation, and strength, ensuring every citizen has the tools to succeed and maintaining a workforce that is the strongest and brightest globally.
