Scott Howard, a longtime radio broadcaster for the University of Georgia football team, recently announced on social media that he will no longer be serving in this role after 18 years.Â
âThank you to everyone for all the messages. Didnât know that many people had my number đł,â Howard shared on X on Friday, April 24. âJust to clear up any confusion, respectfully, it was not my decision to step away from the football broadcast.â
Following this, the University of Georgia announced that Jeff Dantzler and former Bulldog football player Jon Stinchcomb will be stepping in to cover the football broadcasts for the 2026 season.Â
Dantzler, who already provides play-by-play for Georgia baseball and Lady Bulldog basketball, will be taking over Howardâs position in the booth.Â
In a statement, the university confirmed that Howard will continue his work as the play-by-play announcer for menâs basketball and will engage in âother special projects.â
Many fans of the Bulldogs were not pleased with Howardâs departure from football broadcasting.Â
âThank you for 18 years as the voice of the Dawgs,â one fan commented on Howardâs post. âWe enjoyed every game that you called and always looked forward to tuning in every Saturday, home or away.â
Another shared, âThis is so disappointing! You were a Saturday staple in our house! We always sync the radio to the broadcast because your calling was our favorite! Going to miss you behind the mic!! Go Dawgs and Thank you Scott for being the voice to all the amazing Georgia Bulldog memories!â
Dantzler also turned to social media to express his feelings following the announcement of his new role, succeeding Howard, who had been a part of the Bulldog Radio Network for over 30 years.Â
âI would like to thank everyone for the kind words, congratulatory messages, and tremendous encouragement, it is absolutely overwhelming,â he shared on X on Sunday, April 26. âThis is a dream come true, the honor and responsibility of a lifetime. Thank you. Bulldog Nation, I love you. Thank you. Go Dawgs!â
While the university did not disclose the reasons behind the changes in the broadcast lineup, they expressed their appreciation for Howardâs extensive tenure.Â
âJeff Dantzler, Jon Stinchcomb, and D.J. Shockley share a tremendous passion for the University of Georgia,â stated director of athletics Josh Brooks. âWe look forward to many more iconic calls as they bring to life exceptional moments in Georgia Bulldogs history. We also thank Scott Howard for his nearly four decades of work for the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network, and we are thrilled he is staying on as our menâs basketball announcer.â
