Walter Brown surveyed the court and launched a deep three-pointer, sealing the Canterbury Rams’ 87-72 victory over the Otago Nuggets in Christchurch today.

The Nuggets, who had started their season with four consecutive wins, faced their first defeat against an impressive Canterbury lineup.

Despite the Nuggets’ efforts to rally, the Rams consistently regained control of the game.

Brown was close to achieving a triple-double, contributing 20 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Jack Andrew, another standout, recorded a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Taylor Britt led the Rams’ offense with 25 points.

On the Nuggets’ side, Ethan Rusbatch stood out with 19 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Buay Tuach added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Isaac Miller-Jose secured 10 rebounds.

Brown’s crucial block and subsequent score helped the Rams take the lead.

Christian Martin’s defensive efforts maintained the Rams’ narrow 23-21 lead at the first break.

Rusbatch briefly restored the Nuggets’ lead with a three-pointer, complemented by Zach McKenzie’s defensive block against Brody Cooper.

Rusbatch continued his strong performance by scoring on a fast break, as the Rams began to regain momentum.

Britt’s skills shone as he attacked the basket and managed the game’s pace, leading to the Rams’ dominance.

The Nuggets were limited to just 14 points in the second quarter.

Andrew’s three-pointer extended the Rams’ lead to 44-35.

Early in the third quarter, the Rams pushed their lead to 11 points.

Without Matthew Bardsley, the Nuggets struggled to find offensive rhythm as the Rams intensified their play.

Tuach managed a difficult drive to the basket, but the team needed more of such efforts.

Todd Withers and Britt hit three-pointers to further increase the Rams’ advantage.

Alain Louis made his presence felt with his first points, while Miller-Jose added to the scoreboard.

Louis became more influential, securing a steal that helped reduce the Nuggets’ deficit to seven.

Nevertheless, the Rams regained momentum, leading 61-49 at the next break.

Louis scored off the glass, Tuach added another score, and then made a step-back three-pointer as the Nuggets attempted a comeback.

The Nuggets managed to contain Britt, who faced injuries in the second half, causing mistakes in their transitions.

Ultimately, the Rams regained their momentum and widened the gap.

In the Rapid League game, the Nuggets emerged victorious in overtime with a 41-38 win, with Martin contributing 20 points.
