It seems like there has been a major setback for celebrity chef Guy Fieri and former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar’s tequila brand, Santo Tequila. Two trucks carrying a total of 24,240 bottles of Santo Tequila were stolen in Laredo, Texas over the weekend. The stolen tequila, valued at $1 million, took nearly 39 months to produce.
In an interview with PEOPLE.com, Fieri expressed his frustration over the heist, stating that the stolen booze took four years to produce and this incident comes at a time when Santo Tequila was experiencing great momentum in the market. The trucks, which were carrying 440 cases of Santo Tequila, were hijacked on either November 9 or 10.
Fieri, who co-owns Santo Tequila with Sammy Hagar, mentioned that they only learned about the theft recently and it couldn’t have happened at a worse time as the holiday season is typically the busiest time for Santo Tequila. He also raised concerns about the risk involved in stealing two trucks instead of just one.
Authorities including Laredo police, Los Angeles’ Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team, and CargoNet are currently investigating the incident. Fieri has offered a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen tequila. He described the situation as something out of a movie and never anticipated such a setback for Santo Tequila.
The stolen tequila is expected to be hard to find in the foreseeable future, and Fieri is determined to get to the bottom of this heist. Despite the setback, Santo Tequila remains a popular choice among consumers and Fieri is optimistic about bouncing back from this unfortunate incident.
