Earlier this month, an intriguing art installation featuring dozens of metallic discs hanging from the ceiling captivated visitors in a vast industrial setting. This innovative work by SpY, described as “a continuous choreography of movement and reflection,” invited viewers to engage with its dynamic and reflective nature. Known for his grand-scale installations, SpY often transforms everyday materials like traffic cones and metallic rescue blankets into striking urban artworks.
SpY’s latest large-scale piece, named “Halos,” transformed the interior of a former railway-related factory in Florence. This space, more often associated with Renaissance beauty than with brutalist architecture, was given new life as part of the city’s Bright Festival.
Standing three stories high, “Halos” interacts with the natural airflow within the venue, enhanced by the movement of spectators. The installation’s shimmering light adds an ethereal and magical dimension to the experience.
