Elon Musk Endorses Howard Lutnick for Treasury Secretary
Elon Musk recently took to social media platform X to share his endorsement for Treasury secretary, a position that President-elect Donald Trump has yet to announce his preference for. Musk expressed his support for Howard Lutnick, the Trump-Vance transition co-chair and CEO and chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald, BGC Group, and Newmark Group. According to Musk, Lutnick is someone who will “actually enact change” in the Treasury Department.
In addition to endorsing Lutnick, Musk also mentioned Scott Bessent, the founder and CEO of Key Square Group, as a top pick for the Treasury Department. However, Musk expressed his reservations about Bessent, calling him a “business-as-usual choice” and stating that America needs a change from the current status quo to avoid bankruptcy.
Musk’s endorsement of Lutnick comes amidst speculation about potential candidates for the Treasury secretary position. Trump transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt clarified that President-elect Trump has not yet made any decisions regarding the appointment. Leavitt emphasized that Trump will announce his decisions when they are finalized.
Both Lutnick and Bessent have close ties to Trump, with Lutnick having known the president-elect for decades and even hosting a fundraiser for him. Lutnick has also been assisting Trump in reviewing candidates for various cabinet positions. On the other hand, Bessent served as a key economic advisor during Trump’s 2024 campaign and received an endorsement from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
As discussions continue about potential candidates for Treasury secretary, Musk’s endorsement of Lutnick adds an interesting perspective to the conversation. It remains to be seen who President-elect Trump will ultimately choose for this crucial position in his administration.
