Obama Bluntly Rips Trump's Abuses Of Power

The activities surrounding Donald Trump remain constant, yet they seldom focus on governance. His second administration is characterized by an overwhelming series of actions aimed at dismantling traditional checks and balances. This destruction is paving the way for unprecedented levels of corruption in the presidency, unseen by the American public for centuries.

Historically, former presidents have distanced themselves from daily political affairs. While they might campaign during election years, they typically refrain from ongoing criticism.

Trump broke with this tradition by maintaining a prominent public presence and frequently criticizing the Biden administration.

The nation has called for a credible and authoritative voice to clarify that Trump’s actions are abnormal and detrimental to the country.

In an interview with Stephen Colbert, Barack Obama was asked about presidential powers he believed should be limited.

Obama responded, “There are a couple that I followed even though they weren’t law, and I want us… we’re gonna have to do some work to return to this basic norm, and we probably now have to codify it. The White House shouldn’t be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting whoever the president wants prosecuted.”

Colbert noted that the Department of Justice falls under the Executive Branch, to which Obama replied, “The norm is that it’s independent. The idea is that the attorney general is the people’s lawyer. It’s not the president’s consigliere.”

Obama further discussed the often-overlooked necessity to repair and address the damage Trump has inflicted on the DOJ.
