Cam Newton, the former quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, criticized NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs following the dismissal of assault and strangulation charges against him.

Diggs was at the center of attention on Monday and Tuesday due to a legal dispute involving his previous personal chef, Jamila “Mila” Adams. The accusations stemmed from an alleged assault by Diggs on Adams on December 2 at his home, where he was accused of slapping her and putting her in a headlock.

On Tuesday, the court cleared Diggs of all charges, including felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery.

During the trial, it was disclosed that Adams had lived in Diggs’ residence as his chef, and their relationship was described as “complicated,” involving a past sexual connection.

In Wednesday’s episode of “4th & 1 with Cam Newton,” the former NFL MVP expressed his views and criticized Diggs.

“Why would you even put yourself in that situation?” Newton said. “When you have a conversation with women, or you ask them, ‘Have you ever spazzed out on a dude?’ and when you really delve into the situation, the fact that the man led them on is what led to that — keeping the buck with them. Brothers, see, you saying, ‘Man, she tripping. Man, she crazy.’ No, no, no, brother — you were giving her the illusion that led to her delusion.

Newton also emphasized that men should take responsibility when the lines between personal and professional interactions blur.

“See, these guys are just as guilty for the women acting the way they acted, because now, all of a sudden, you done housed this lady, you done paid this lady multiple ways, you done laid with this lady,” he explained. “Brother, we have to hold Mr. Diggs accountable, too. You cannot keep leading these women on.”

On Tuesday, the jury deliberated for under two hours before delivering a verdict in a Massachusetts courtroom. Diggs’ defense claimed the assault never took place, arguing the allegations were financially driven.

Adams was reportedly seeking $5.5 million, and her claims were countered by the absence of visible injuries and testimony from other staff members who witnessed no signs of conflict.

Court testimony revealed Adams was employed as Diggs’ live-in personal chef starting in February 2025, with a salary of $2,000 per week. Adams stated that she initially met Diggs through Instagram in December 2022.

Stefon Diggs participated in the 2025 season with the New England Patriots, contributing to their Super Bowl run. He was released by the team in March.
