BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to social media to praise the Indian cricket team for their impressive victory in the first T20I match against South Africa. The match, which took place at Kingsmead, Durban, saw a stellar performance from Sanju Samson, who scored a brilliant century off just 47 balls. His innings of 107 runs off 50 deliveries, supported by Tilak Varma’s quickfire 33, helped India post a challenging total of 202/8 in their 20 overs.
In response, South Africa struggled to build partnerships as India’s bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi were the pick of the bowlers, each claiming three wickets to bundle out the hosts for 141 and secure a convincing 61-run victory for India.
Impressed by the team’s performance, Jay Shah praised the players for their character and determination in restricting South Africa’s strong batting lineup. He specifically mentioned Sanju Samson for his back-to-back centuries in T20Is and applauded the wrist spin duo of Chakaravarthy and Bishnoi for their crucial contributions to the team’s success.
Sanju Samson, who was named Player of the Match for his outstanding century, expressed his joy at his match-winning innings during the post-match presentation. He highlighted the importance of being aggressive and playing with intent, which he believes helped him capitalize on his current form and deliver a successful performance.
The second game of the T20I series is set to take place at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, where both teams will look to continue their momentum and secure a series lead. With Sanju Samson in fine form and India’s bowlers firing on all cylinders, the Men in Blue will be aiming to maintain their dominance over South Africa in the upcoming matches.
