Police reported that two women were shot by a gunman during an armed robbery in the West Loop late at night.
The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. in the 600 block of West Randolph Street. According to a CPD media statement, the gunman approached the women after exiting a white SUV. He demanded their belongings, took a purse from one of the women, and then fired shots, injuring both victims.
One victim, a 21-year-old woman, sustained a gunshot wound to the knee and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition. The second victim, a 33-year-old woman, received a graze wound to her hip and was taken to Rush Hospital, the CPD reported.
Witnesses described the suspect as a Black male wearing a tan shirt, who fled in a white Kia, possibly a Sorento, with a damaged front windshield. Several other individuals were reportedly in the vehicle with him, according to those present at the scene.
Editor’s note: Although CPD stated the shooting happened at 12:50 a.m., radio transmissions suggest it occurred approximately 10 minutes earlier.
CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.
Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
