Apple’s Siri revamp could include auto-deleting chats

Apple is set to highlight privacy as a key focus when it introduces a new version of Siri at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

This relaunch of Siri is viewed as Apple’s significant opportunity to regain its standing in the field of artificial intelligence. Company executives are expected to advocate for a more privacy-conscious approach compared to many other AI companies, according to Gurman.

Apple is reportedly planning to debut the first standalone Siri app, which will be powered by Google Gemini and provide users with a chatbot experience similar to ChatGPT. However, unlike other chatbots, this app is anticipated to impose stricter limitations on the duration for which user information can be utilized and stored.

Gurman indicated that Siri might incorporate a feature akin to the Messages app, enabling users to automatically delete conversations after 30 days, a year, or retain them indefinitely.

Gurman also hinted that Apple’s emphasis on privacy might serve as a justification for Siri’s potential shortcomings when compared to rival products, noting that this focus might obscure the fact that some security aspects are managed by Google.
