Trump skipping his son’s wedding, a son who shares his name, seems almost like a self-parody, fitting his public persona.
Donald Trump has dedicated almost a third of his presidency to spending time at his clubs and playing golf, often spending just three to four days a week at the White House. This frequent absence from work makes his reason for not attending Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding seem particularly unreasonable.
On his social media platform, Trump posted:
While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so. I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina! President DONALD J. TRUMP
It adds another layer of irony that Trump signed his statement, in which he announced he was missing his son’s wedding, using his full name. Notably, he did not express love for his son or refer to himself as “dad.”
