You might think that the “maxxing” suffix has been overused on social media. Various trends such as looksmaxxing, fibermaxxing, and ballmaxxing have all focused on maximizing different things. Now, the climax of these trends is “climaxxing,” which encourages taking breaks from hectic schedules to address what is being referred to as the “sexual recession.”
What Is Climaxxing
The term “climaxxing” cleverly builds on the word “climax,” by adding an extra “x.” In this context, climax traditionally refers to an orgasm, which is the intense release that follows sexual arousal. This can occur during sex with a partner or solo. An orgasm involves involuntary muscle contractions in the pelvic area and can lead to increased heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, and sometimes unexpected vocal expressions. Additionally, it triggers releases of dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins, resulting in feelings of euphoria and relaxation.
However, the climaxxing trend isn’t solely about achieving orgasms as frequently as possible. Engaging in sex or intimate moments without reaching orgasm can still provide benefits like those mentioned. Therefore, climaxxing is about regularly increasing the frequency of sexual or intimate encounters, not just focusing on the orgasm itself.
Climaxxing Is A Response To The So-Called ‘Sexual Recession’
This trend is reportedly a reaction to the so-called “sexual recession,” a term that plays on the concept of economic recessions, such as the one in 2008. The sexual recession refers to observations that Americans, particularly Gen Z, are engaging in less sexual activity than in previous decades.
For instance, a 2020 survey in JAMA Network Open revealed that from 2000 to 2018, sexual inactivity among men aged 18 to 24 increased dramatically, with about one in three not engaging in sexual activities in the past year. Similar trends were observed among individuals aged 25 to 34. While this survey is just one piece of evidence, it raises questions about the current state of sexual activity.
The Advantages Of Climaxxing
Not engaging in sexual activities means missing the benefits sex can provide, such as reducing stress and pain, lowering blood pressure, and enhancing the immune system, self-esteem, and sleep, as previously covered in Forbes. These advantages arise from the physical act itself, the release of hormones, and the psychological impact of having sex. They can foster intimacy and closeness with a partner, or through masturbation, help individuals better understand their own bodies.
Furthermore, sex and intimacy provide a valuable break from daily routines and excessive screen time, assuming devices are not used during these moments. Such breaks can refresh the mind and body, offering new perspectives and creativity.
How To Do Climaxxing
If you now believe that having sex is beneficial, you might wonder how to incorporate it more regularly into your life. If you have a partner, discuss increasing intimacy and prioritize sex higher on your list. You might even consider scheduling it, similar to other activities, to ensure it happens.
If you’re not currently with a partner, this may seem challenging. Remember that masturbation is a viable option. Approach it with the same deliberation, prioritizing it, setting the right mood, and possibly even scheduling it. Just be cautious not to use a shared calendar for these plans.
Ultimately, it remains uncertain how the climaxxing trend will influence the sexual recession. However, among the various maxxing trends, this is one that might be worth exploring rather than ignoring.
