An 18-year-old woman, Celeste Pope, has been charged with committing two robberies on CTA trains in Chicago over the past few months. The robberies took place on the Red Line train at Morse on July 19 and on a Midway-bound Orange Line train on October 30. Pope’s high school principal identified her as a suspect in the robberies, and she is currently detained pending trial on two counts of robbery.

In the first robbery on the Red Line train, four people confronted a 22-year-old man from Evanston, beat him, and stole his phone, driver’s license, and credit cards. Pope is accused of participating in this robbery and spraying the man with a chemical irritant, possibly mace. Surveillance images of the suspects were released by detectives, leading to the arrest of 25-year-old Martel Martin, who was charged with participating in the robbery.

Pope is also accused of robbing a 28-year-old woman on the Orange Line train with 21-year-old Zander Glass. They allegedly stole the woman’s crossbody purse by ripping it off her body as they rode the train. Glass was also charged with the crime.

The Chicago Police Department and prosecutors have been working diligently to apprehend those responsible for these robberies on CTA trains. The collaboration between law enforcement and the public has been crucial in identifying and charging the suspects involved in these incidents.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety and the need for vigilance while using public transportation. The efforts of the Chicago Police Department and community members have helped bring these suspects to justice and ensure the safety of passengers on CTA trains.
