The smartphone industry in 2026 has seen only modest advancements, with few groundbreaking changes. If you’ve purchased a phone in recent years, rest assured that you’re not missing out on any significant developments from the latest models.
However, Apple enthusiasts might find 2026 particularly exciting. The company is anticipated to make a significant impact with the expected launch of its first foldable device in September. This device is commonly referred to as the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, it will be part of a new “Ultra” series from Apple, which will also include AirPods and a MacBook. The official name, however, remains under wraps until Apple makes its announcement.
Though the name is uncertain, several details about the foldable iPhone have emerged through leaks on social media, which are often accurate. This device is said to feature a wide, Passport-style fold, setting it up as a competitor to the rumored Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide.
In terms of color options, the foldable iPhone is likely to be available in two variants: silver/white and a dark blue shade. While there is some debate over whether this blue will be indigo, midnight, or navy, it is agreed that the tone will be a muted, professional dark blue suitable for office environments.

Alongside its foldable phone, Apple is also set to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models. These devices are expected to receive only minor hardware enhancements compared to their predecessors, following the trend of incremental updates seen across the industry.
Thanks to a report from our colleagues at Macworld, we know that the iPhone 18 Pro series will feature new color options: black, a refined pale blue, silver, and the standout shade for this year, Dark Cherry.
Imagine having a foldable iPhone in that colour. And keep imagining it…

The introduction of Dark Cherry marks a departure from last year’s popular Cosmic Orange, which is now available from other manufacturers. Although the new hue is less vibrant, it offers a distinctive and bold choice in phone colors. While a foldable iPhone in Dark Cherry might be appealing, Apple has no plans to offer this combination.
In a year where unique options are scarce, Apple will compel consumers to choose between style and color when making their purchase this September.
