Police are investigating a fire at the Auckland electorate office of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, considering it suspicious.
The building on Millhouse Dr in Botany was secured with a cordon shortly after 9.50am today. This followed a report from someone nearby who heard a loud bang.
Phillip Kang, a pharmacist at the neighboring Millhouse Pharmacy, recounted hearing the noise. Initially, he thought it might have been a car crash, but emergency services soon arrived at the scene.
Kang noted that police were stationed at the location.
According to a police statement, the fire is being treated as suspicious, and investigations are currently underway.
A cordon has been set up, and a scene examination is planned.
A representative for Luxon stated, “There was a fire at the office. Our staff are safe and were not harmed.”
The spokesperson added, “It is now a police matter so we do not have further comment at this stage.”
