As August of the coming year nears, marking thirty years since Diana’s tragic passing in Paris in 1997, tensions are once again escalating.
Harry, who has distanced himself from royal duties and resides in Montecito, California, alongside his wife, the former Suits actress Meghan Markle, 44, is reportedly working on a significant Netflix project to honor his mother. Meghan is also anticipated to have a major involvement in the film.
In contrast, William is believed to hold the view that any tribute should be orchestrated by the royal family and managed with “institutional oversight.”
A royal insider shared, “There is increasing conversation behind the scenes about Harry and Meghan’s serious advancement on a Netflix tribute associated with the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death, which has greatly upset William.
“From his standpoint, it risks transforming something deeply personal and meaningful into a public commercial enterprise, which he finds highly concerning. He is not acting impulsively, however—he is carefully observing to see if Harry indeed carries out these plans. Should this occur, those close to William suggest it would represent a pivotal moment, after which he might feel obliged to permanently sever ties with Harry when he ascends to the throne.”
