An unexpected and violent incident at a Simi Valley Target resulted in several injuries and reignited concerns about public safety. This occurred after a man reportedly attacked a woman without provocation and then assaulted others who tried to intervene.
The Simi Valley Police Department reported that officers responded to a disturbance call at the Target store located at 51 Tierra Rejada Road around 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The situation quickly became chaotic, as reported by KTLA.
Investigators revealed that 34-year-old Rejean Tabor entered the store and soon after allegedly began choking a female customer standing at the checkout. Police later confirmed that the woman did not know Tabor.
When loss prevention staff and shoppers attempted to assist the victim, Tabor reportedly attacked those intervening, including a minor, according to authorities.
The confrontation expanded within the store as customers attempted to subdue him. Video footage captured part of the violent episode, showing Tabor wrestling with several individuals in the clothing area.
The video shows at least two women being knocked down while two men repeatedly engaged with Tabor. A young girl was seen standing alarmingly close to one of the struggles.
As the chaos grew, Target employees initiated an emergency evacuation while waiting for police to arrive.
Tabor was later found in the grocery section, allegedly throwing merchandise. Officers eventually took him into custody.
Authorities stated that several customers, including the minor, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The woman initially attacked was transported to a local hospital by family and remained in stable condition as of Thursday.
Tabor faces charges including attempted murder, burglary, assault, battery, and cruelty or unjustifiable pain to a minor, and was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.
