On Sunday morning, a CTA train operator was injured by flying glass after a bullet pierced the window of his train car during a shootout on the Dan Ryan Expressway. This incident involved three vehicles, according to Chicago police who were at the scene.
At around 8:49 a.m., witnesses observed three cars heading north on the expressway pull over near the 95th Street Red Line station. Two vehicles boxed in a third, and occupants from all three cars began exchanging gunfire, as reported by Chicago police. One bullet from this altercation reportedly shattered the glass of the train operator’s car.
The Chicago Police Department’s official statement described the victim as a “46-year-old male” who was struck by glass while on the train. However, officers at the scene consistently identified him over their radios as the train’s operator. He was transported to Trinity Hospital and is in good condition.
All vehicles involved in the shootout left the scene, and no additional injuries have been reported. Police took a woman into custody at the train station, but details regarding her arrest have not been disclosed by CPD.
