Has anyone else noticed Eckhaus Latta’s sudden ubiquity? Earlier this year, the brand’s brief collaboration with J.Crew resulted in a rollneck sweater that quickly sold out. More recently, designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta partnered with Mango, enhancing the Spanish retailer’s street credibility. Now, for the first time in their over ten-year career, they have joined the resort calendar. According to Eckhaus, this opportunity will enable them to present more innovative designs on the runway, something New York is in dire need of. Indicating the vibrant racks of pre-spring clothing, he stated, “This is us contemplating foundational dressing through the Eckhaus Latta perspective, crafting a wardrobe.”
Denim takes center stage, featuring distressed washes and relaxed fits with side seams that curve to the front, creating a unique bowed-leg appearance. Knits are also prominent, with options in tight color-blocked merino wool and looser, boldly colored graphic intarsias. Polos and t-shirts are essential components of the collection. The polos, with their cross-hatched seams and raw edges, exude a DIY vibe, while the snug, crepey t-shirts are presented in the lookbook to highlight their layering potential. Some items feature EL embroidery on the hip, marking their initial attempt at a brand logo, which remains as understated and recognizable to those in the know as anything this pair has produced.
