The Netflix crime series “Dept. Q” has begun production on its second season in Scotland, expanding its cast with the addition of 10 new members.
Matthew Goode will reprise his role as DCI Carl Morck, accompanied by his eclectic team, including Alexej Manvelov as Akram Salim, Leah Byrne as DC Rose Dickson, and Jamie Sives as DS James Hardy. The new season will continue to be filmed and set in Edinburgh.
The new season welcomes Aisling Franciosi (“Speak No Evil,” “The Nightingale”) as Kimmie, Greg Wise (“The Crown,” “The Buccaneers”) as Derek Powell, Nicholas Rowe (“Red Eye” S2, “Spy Among Friends”) as Thomas Fulton, Tony Curran (“Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” “Mary and George”) as Winnie Calderwood, Hamish Clark (“Monarch of the Glen”) as Christopher Herron, Alex Ferns (“Waiting for the Out,” “The Batman”) as Phil Allenbeck, Ross Anderson (“Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “The Rig”) as Ricky Daddario, Rebecca Root (“Heartstopper,” “The Wheel of Time”) as June Lovesay, Isla Johnston (“The Queen’s Gambit,” “The Carpenter’s Son”) as Agnes, and Amy Brenneman (“The Old Man,” “Judging Amy”) as Helen.
Returning from Season 1 are Mark Bonnar as Stephen Burns, Kate Dickie as Moira Jacobson, Aaron McVeigh as Jasper, and Sanjeev Kohli as Martin Fleming.
Under the direction of Scott Frank (“The Queen’s Gambit”) and produced by Left Bank Pictures (“The Crown”), the series follows Morck as he leads the unconventional Dept. Q from the basement of an Edinburgh police station, tackling cases previously considered unsolvable. This darkly comedic and dynamic series offers the thrills of a procedural while delving into the intricate mysteries of both the cases and the detectives themselves.
Executive producers include Frank, Rob Bullock, and Charlotte Moore, with Manda Levin and Jessica Burdett supervising for Netflix.
Rob Bullock from Left Bank expressed, “This season, Carl and his team face a heinous crime concealed within the upper echelons of Scottish society. It reflects our times: affluent and influential individuals believing they are untouchable. Carl knows otherwise. It’s a pleasure to collaborate with master storyteller Scott Frank again, and we commend Netflix for giving them the freedom once more.”
Netflix’s Manda Levin added, “Season 1 of ‘Dept. Q’ evoked laughter and tears, shocked and intrigued us, and made us fall in love with the characters and the vibrant world Scott Frank and his team created in one of our favorite cities. Its warm reception in Scotland, the U.K., and globally was exhilarating. The story of Season 2 is as captivating as expected, and Carl and his team will have a challenging task ahead.”
