Influencer Laura Viktoria Härtig has tragically passed away at the age of 30 after a head-on collision involving her bicycle and a motorcycle ridden by Olympian Peter Runggaldier, during her honeymoon in Italy.
On June 23, Härtig was involved in a severe accident in the Dolomite mountain range in northern Italy. Her bicycle collided with Runggaldier’s motorcycle, who is 57, according to local media. This unfortunate event took place just two days after Härtig shared images from her Italian wedding to her husband, Tilman, on Instagram, with a post on June 21 captioned, “Soulmate for life.”
Reports from local sources indicate that the collision was so powerful it split Härtig’s bicycle in half, propelling her onto the road. She was resuscitated on-site by medics and quickly transported for urgent medical care.
The Mirror stated that Härtig was airlifted to a hospital in Bolzano. Her family later moved her to Bavaria, where she died on Sunday, July 12.
At that time, local police reported via Facebook: “Road accident. This morning the force attended a road accident at Passo Sella, kilometer 32+400. A motorcycle and a bicycle were involved. Traffic was stuck for about an hour. Intervened in support of the Canazei VVF, the White Cross of Canazei, Trentino emergency and the helicopter services.”
According to the outlet, Runggaldier sustained serious fractures and abdominal injuries in the accident.
Us Weekly has contacted Runggaldier for a statement.
An investigation into the accident by the Trento Prosecutor’s Office is still underway, per The Mirror.
On Tuesday, Runggaldier broke his silence via Instagram, requesting privacy as he recovers.
