British actress Annabel Scholey, known for her recent role in the Disney+ series “Rivals,” has been cast in Netflix’s upcoming thriller “The Lord’s Day,” currently filming in the U.K.
According to Variety, Scholey, who also starred in the BBC series “The Split,” will play a significant role in the six-part series. The show is adapted from Michael Dobbs’ 2007 novel and features F1 star Damson Idris in the lead role.
The cast also includes Harry Lawtey from “Industry” and “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Arsema Thomas of “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” and “She Taught Love,” Sophie Willan from “Alma’s Not Normal” and “Ludwig,” Gemma Whelan of “Game of Thrones” and “Killing Eve,” and Timothy Spall from “The Sixth Commandment” and “Goodbye June.”
The series’ official synopsis describes a tense scenario: “On the State Opening of Parliament, British spy Harry Jones (Idris) finds himself inside the iconic building amidst a lockdown. As the siege escalates, loyalties are tested and selfless sacrifices are made, leading to a desperate fight for survival where not everyone will emerge alive. Can Harry use his skills and training to be the country’s saviour?”
“The Lord’s Day” is produced by Bad Wolf, known for “Industry,” “His Dark Materials,” and “The Other Bennett Sister,” and recently involved in the last two seasons of “Doctor Who.” Idris not only stars but also serves as an executive producer alongside Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch from Bad Wolf, with lead writers Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley, and director Ben Chanan.
Scholey’s other notable works include a leading role in Channel 4’s drama “The Couple Next Door” and Janis Pugh’s Welsh romantic comedy-musical “Chuck Chuck Baby,” which received the Bafta Cymru for best feature/TV film. In 2023, she appeared alongside her “The Lord’s Day” co-star Spall in the BBC’s acclaimed true-crime drama “The Sixth Commandment,” which won the BAFTA for best limited drama.
