The Z Flip 8 seems to have been given minimal attention this year, particularly highlighted by the absence of a more affordable ‘FE’ variant. With only minor enhancements and a significant increase in price, the new Flip doesn’t offer a compelling reason to purchase unless you’re a fan of its predecessors.

Speculation suggests this might be the final Galaxy Z Flip model, and I wouldn’t be shocked if it turns out to be true. Without any indication that Samsung plans to tackle the major shortcomings of the Z Flip, it might be time to conclude its run.

Where are the upgrades?

Earlier this month, I highlighted five critical upgrades the Z Flip 8 needed to avoid potential discontinuation. Samsung has not addressed any of these concerns.

Having five glaring flaws is unacceptable

The only real change was easing some limitations on the cover screen, offering a more intuitive user interface and enhanced app optimization. However, running most third-party apps still requires navigating complex procedures that many users might be unaware of.

Moreover, the camera setup still lacks the crucial telephoto lens and shows no other advancements. It also remains without adequate dust protection, retaining an IP48 rating, making it unsuitable for sandy environments, reminiscent of previous issues experienced with the Z Fold 7.

Perhaps most disappointing is the absence of any battery enhancements. While Samsung has transitioned to silicon-carbon (Si-C) technology, the battery capacity remains at a mere 4300mAh, which is quite small by today’s standards, casting doubt on its ability to endure a full, demanding day.
